In short: Our first choice of company name was MM Organic Delights. We retired it after finding it clashed with two existing Indian food brands, and "organic" turned out to be one of the most contested words in Indian FMCG trademark filings. MM Rooted Ventures was the deliberate replacement — and every part of that name means something.
Why MM Organic Delights didn't work
Before settling on our current name, we checked for brand collisions — a step every small food business should do before printing packaging. "MM Organic" turned out to clash with an existing Indian spice company and a separate brand, organicdelight.in, operating since 2010. On top of that, "organic" is a heavily contested word in Indian food trademark filings, which raises the risk of an objection later. We retired the name before it ever shipped.
What MM Rooted Ventures actually means
The first "M" is Manavalan — our family surname, and the name on this land for three generations. The second "M" is Manimekala, the name of the garden itself: our registered farm address is 378/6 Manavalan Manimekala Garden, Odaipatti. "Rooted" carries three meanings at once — rooted in the soil our Panneer vines grow in, rooted in values like no shortcuts and no added sulphur, and rooted in a future we're actively building. "Ventures," plural, because this was never going to be a single-product company: food, processing services, and a technology platform, all under one name.
What happened to "MM Dry Grapes and Juices"?
That name isn't gone — it's just not the company anymore. It stays on as a product label on our grape SKUs, partly for continuity with our existing FSSAI registration, packaging stock and Instagram presence, and it will phase out gradually as the MM Rooted Ventures brand becomes the primary identity people recognise.
The short answer
MM Rooted Ventures replaced an earlier name after a real trademark collision check — not a rebrand for its own sake. The name itself is literal: it's our family name, our land's name, and an honest description of what we're building.
